Repeat Prescriptions

The practice runs a computerised prescription system that allows you to receive long term medication without seeing a doctor every time.

Please hand in your computer printed 'repeats' list (found on the opposite half of your prescription) into reception before you need your medication. If you would like us to return it by post please enclose a stamped addressed envelope.

You can also request your repeat prescriptions online via the link at the top of this page. You have to register for this service in order to obtain a username and password.

Please allow three full working days for prescriptions to be processed and please remember to take weekends and bank holidays into account.

Medication Reviews

Patients on repeat medication will be asked to see a clinician at least once a year to review these regular medications and notification should appear on your repeat slip.

Please ensure that you book an appropriate appointment to avoid unnecessary delays to further prescriptions.

Further Important Information

Prescription theft is becoming an increasing problem nationally, especially of prescriptions for common ‘drugs of misuse’. Therefore, to ensure we are operating safely and minimising this risk we are adopting a new process:

When collecting prescriptions on behalf of a patient from the surgery that include one or more “controlled drugs” we now require a ‘letter of authority’ from the patient, along with a copy of ID for both the patient and yourself.

For more information on 'controlled drugs' please click here

Additionally due to a recent increase in both verbal abuse and aggressive behaviour towards our staff we would like to clarify the processes we follow for the issue of repeat prescriptions.

If you currently submit your repeat request direct to the surgery then we would now ask that this is done ONLY using the computer printed ‘repeats’ list that is printed on the opposite half of your prescriptions. This slip ensures that we have the correct drug details and patient details. Currently some patients submit hand written requests which increases ‘drug error’ risk and the risk of patient harm. As a responsible provider we must do all we can to minimise such risks, therefore, following a short ‘grace’ period we will no longer accept repeat requests other than those on the patients computerised repeats slip. Should you require a repeats slip these can be printed by our administrative staff for you.

Also, due to an increase in the volume of repeat prescription requests we now receive the ‘turnaround’ time for prescriptions will, with immediate effect, be 3 full working days. Please bear this in mind when planning your medication needs, be mindful of weekends and Bank Holidays, and also if you yourself are planning a break away!

Remember that we do offer access to online repeat request services. Also you may like to discuss with your pharmacist how they can help you manage your repeat medications – many offer services to help you with this.

Many thanks for your assistance in these matters.
